The Soil Association is a UK based charity. Founded in 1946, they now have 27,000 members. The Soil Association focus on campaigning in opposition to intensive farming, in support of local purchasing and in the certification of organic good. They certify over 80% of the UK’s organic produce.
I was fortunate enough to be asked to photograph the refurbished HQ in Bristol by the wonderful ASKEWCAVANNA architects. The building originates from the 1960’s and the architects have completely transformed it.
They focused on creating open spaces with few internal rooms giving the office a spacious feel and helping staff members collaborate freely. Plants and natural materials are used with great impact; lots of wood complementing the natural foliage and contrasting with the open ceilings and exposed services. Large areas of glazing expose the outside tree line and flooding the office with natural light.
